Confusion in TMC over Bengal Civic Poll List; IPAC denies any role

Confusion prevailed in the Trinamool Congress when the party on Friday released its candidature list for 107 of the 108 municipalities in Bengal, where polling is to be held on February 27. According to party general secretary Partha Chatterjee, the party MLAs and members of the families involved have not got tickets this time. The IPAC has denied any role in the matter.

The list was released by Chatterjee, Vice President Subrata Bakshi, ministers Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas and Chandrima Bhattacharya at a press conference.

TMC recently came out with the ‘one man, one post’ policy, which was mainly promoted by national general secretary and TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee’s nephew Abhishek Banerjee. Its aim was to have more efficient administration by the members of the party.

After the announcement of the list, there were reports of protests from different districts and according to sources, some leaders were not informed about uploading the list.

Chatterjee said the existing list was not correct as it did not have the required signatures. Normally the task of uploading the list is entrusted to IPAC. He said it was not clear who uploaded the list.

The leader said that the correct lists have been sent to the district heads. Meanwhile, sources told CNN-News18 that an inquiry will be launched into the matter, which raises questions on possible miscommunication between TMC and IPAC.

Meanwhile, IPAC has denied any role in the civic body election list.
