Congress appoints observers for Gujarat elections

While the party has appointed five regional observers, it has appointed 32 observers and five other observers in each of the 32 Lok Sabha constituencies.

The Congress on Monday appointed several observers to monitor the upcoming Gujarat elections. While the party has appointed five regional observers, it has appointed 32 observers and five other observers in each of the 32 Lok Sabha constituencies.

AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik will be the party observer for the south region headquartered in Surat, while Mohan Prakash will oversee the elections in the Saurashtra region and headquartered in Rajkot.

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan will be posted in Baroda and will oversee Central Zone elections and BK Hariprasad will look after North Zone and will be headquartered in Ahmedabad. Congress leader KH Muniyappa will be the fifth zonal observer.

Elections to the 182-member Gujarat Assembly will be held in two phases on December 1 and 5. The counting of votes will take place on December 8.
