The BJP hit back by arguing that the Congress, which opposed the placing of the tricolor in the Well of the House, was “insulting” the national flag.

The Congress continued its protest in the Assembly for the second day on February 17 and demanded the resignation of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister KS Eshwarappa, saying the saffron flag may replace the tricolor at the Red Fort in future.

As soon as the proceedings of the House began in the morning, Congress members reached the Well of the House and staged a dharna in front of the Speaker. Amid sloganeering against the BJP government, president Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri paid a tribute and condoled the demise of former MLA and MLC Mallur Ananda Rao. Rao was the first MLA elected from Rajajinagar constituency in 1978. Earlier, the constituency was part of the Malleswaram constituency.

Mr. Eshwarappa, Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah, S. Suresh Kumar, Bandeppa Kashempur, and Minister of Law and Parliamentary Affairs JC Madhuswamy condoled the death of Mr. Rao.

The Speaker completed the Question Hour amid a sit-in by Congress members. With Congress members raising slogans, the Speaker adjourns the House till 3 pm

The Congress has demanded removal of Mr Eshwarappa from the cabinet and registration of a sedition case against him for his “anti-national” remarks.

On February 16, during a heated exchange of words, KPCC president DK Shivakumar and Mr. Eshwarappa almost got into a tussle when the latter made a personal remark, angering the latter.

The BJP opposed this, arguing that the Congress, which opposed the placing of the tricolor in the Well of the House, was “insulting” the national flag.
