Hunger strike against privatization of Visakhapatnam steel plant continues for 371 days

The leaders of the Visakha Ukku Parikshan Samiti (VUPPC) have alleged that the BJP government at the Center is creating communal passion among the people to win the elections and thereby creating unrest in the society.

The relay hunger fast being organized under the aegis of VUPPC against the privatization of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) continued for 371 scheduled tribe Day at the Steel Plant Arch in Kurmannapalem on February 17. Representatives of EMD wing of Utilities, CRMP and VSP participated in the fast.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, VUPPC leaders said the unnecessary controversy over wearing of ‘hijab’ by Muslim students in Karnataka and elsewhere in the country has sparked a debate across the country. He alleged that the BJP has created this controversy to divert people’s attention from the “injustice” meted out to the people during the last five years.

He said that at a time when people had lost their jobs and income due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Center had made them poorer by increasing the prices of diesel and petrol. He said it is time to unite all sections of the people against the Centre.

Among those who spoke were VUPPC representatives Gandham Venkata Rao, YT Das, U. Ramaswamy, Neerukonda Ramachandra Rao, D. Adinarayana and Varsala Srinivasa Rao.

Those who participated in the fast included Raman Murthy, Sanyasi Rao, Shashi Reddy, Rathod, Venkateshwara Rao, M. Ramana, Manikyala Rao, Shaikh, Venkata, Narasimha Murthy, Anand, Nani Babu, Madhusudan Reddy and Srinivas.
