‘Congress didn’t help me…’: CM Mamata slams Grand Old Party in Meghalaya, calls TMC biggest challenge to BJP

Echoing the TMC’s campaign in Meghalaya, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the Congress is not a capable opposition and that is what her party wants to establish.

Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee He held his first campaign rally in Meghalaya on the day elections were announced in the three northeastern states. The state, including Nagaland, will vote on February 27, while Tripura will vote on February 16.

Chief minister and TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Wednesday launched a verbal attack on the BJP and also hit out at the Congress, projecting his party as a watchdog. Actually, Mamta said that TMC is the only party which can challenge BJP.

“I started my fight against the Left, which physically hurt me, but the Congress did not help me. I still haven’t given up because politics is my passion.

Setting the tone for the TMC’s campaign in Meghalaya, he said that the Congress was not a viable opposition and that was what his party wanted to establish. Former chief minister Mukul Sangma, who was an important Congress leader, recently joined the TMC along with 12 MLAs. Sangma, considered an influential leader of the state, is contesting from two seats in the assembly elections.

Mukul Sangma is contesting from two seats and I am sure he will win. I am here to tell you that TMC is the only party which can give you better governance and help you achieve the dreams of youth, students and women.

During her last visit to the state in December, Mamata had announced 52 candidates and this was her second visit with her nephew Abhishek. “We all are basically from Congress but you know if you want to counter BJP-NPP then Congress is not the platform. Every vote to Congress means it goes to BJP… You saw what happened in Goa,” Abhishek said.

While NPP and BJP are the ruling alliance, both the parties are contesting the upcoming assembly elections separately. In such a situation, experts say that when it comes to competing with BJP, TMC will present itself as the only option.
