Congress election will clear the issue of party president outside Gandhi family: Kamal Nath

Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath has said that the issue of party president’s exit from the Gandhi family will become clear after the organizational elections are held in the next three months.

Nath, who held the post of MPCC president and leader of opposition in the Madhya Pradesh assembly, personally said that he does not aspire for any post. “I had not applied to anyone to be the party chief in 2018,” Nath said.

On the demand for the Congress president to be appointed from outside the Gandhi family, Nath said the issue would be resolved once the party’s organizational elections are held in three months. However, he said that the party needs to think about those leaders who sit in New Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore and talk about the country.

On G-23, a rebel faction within the Congress party that has been pushing for organizational reconstruction in the oldest party, the MPCC chief said the G-23 was close to him as these leaders have worked with him for decades. “They had demanded organizational elections and we are stopping it. He said that all their demands have been accepted.

“Without proper membership elections cannot be held, so the membership will be completed in three months,” he said. “Those who sit in Bhopal, New Delhi, Mumbai or Bangalore and talk about the country without understanding the villages and towns, should take heed.”

Asked about the two posts of MPCC chief and Leader of Opposition, Nath said he never applied for any post. “I was in New Delhi and was satisfied and never asked anyone to appoint me as MPCC chief,” said the former chief minister, who was appointed PCC chief in May 2018 for the assembly elections.

“I have no personal aspiration to continue in any position,” he said.
