Union minister Smriti Irani on Tuesday hit out at the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, saying a foundation had taken over 40 acres of land in Amethi in 1981 for a mere rent of Rs 623 on the promise of building a medical facility in the city. The Union minister was replying to Rahul Gandhi’s address earlier in the day, when he criticized the Modi government on issues including the Adani controversy, price rise, among others.

He said, “For 30 years the poor people of Amethi were told that a medical college would be opened. But the land on which they were talking about opening a medical college, that family built a guest house for themselves.

Smriti Irani hit out at the Gandhi family by saying that a man named Nanhe Lal Mishra, who was suffering from an ailment, was denied treatment at a hospital built on land owned by the ‘family’ because he had Ayushman Bharat was the card of the Modi government.

He said, “I wish Mishra could tell this to the House, but his voice will not be heard because he is dead…These are the people who were attacking Narendra Modi, making fun of him, who let a gentleman die.” They’re still on hold.” 40 acres of land,” Irani said.

Smriti Irani also targeted the Congress on the issue of minorities.

The Union Minister said, “They (Congress) say they are sympathizers of minorities. Earlier during their government, money was taken for every ‘Haj’ application, but for the first time the Modi government brought a policy so that poor Muslims do not Do it.” No amount has to be paid for the application form.

“This will reduce the cost of ‘Haj pilgrimage’ by Rs 50,000. We provided over Rs 280 crore to 21,000 minority students,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Gandhi in his Lok Sabha speech targeted the Modi government over the Adani Group-Hindenburg report.

Linking the rise of Gautam Adani’s business empire to PM Modi’s rise to power, Rahul Gandhi said a ‘magic’ happened after 2014 when a businessman ranked 609th rose to the second spot in the global rich list.
