Congress leaders paid tribute to Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary, said ‘great son of India’

Prime Minister of India between 1984 and 1989, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by LTTE terrorists in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu during an election campaign in 1991.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and members of the Gandhi family on Sunday paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his death anniversary.

Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were among a large number of party leaders who paid their respects at Rajiv Gandhi’s memorial Veer Bhoomi.

Sharing a video of his father on Twitter, Rahul Gandhi said, ‘Papa you are with me, as an inspiration, in memories, always’.

Kharge also shared a video on the life of Rajiv Gandhi on Twitter.

“Rajiv Gandhi was a great son of India. Through several interventions such as lowering the voting age, strengthening Panchayati Raj, the telecom and IT revolution, and continuing peace accords – he transformed India as it moved into the 21st century. Our humble tributes on his Martyrdom Day,” he said in a tweet.
