Former Punjab Congress president Navjot Singh Sidhu on Tuesday said that his party may have lost the election, but it is not dead. He further said that Congress will play the role of a constructive opposition in the state from now on.

Speaking for the first time after his party lost the Punjab assembly elections, he said, “We will work hard to solve the problems of the people.” He further said that the government would be held accountable for all its actions in Punjab.

Meanwhile, Sidhu did not attend a meeting with several party leaders from Amritsar on Friday by the newly-appointed Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. Asked about Sidhu’s absence from meetings, Waring said the former state Congress president was away from Samrala. About Sidhu’s visit to Samrala, he said, “It could be some personal matter.”

Earlier in the month, he said he would continue to fight for the interests of Punjab, days after it was claimed that the rebel MLAs planned to leave the party. Sidhu, who reached the house of former MLA Amrik Singh Dhillon in Samrala, alleged that the wheat crop of farmers is being bought at the rate of Rs 2,000 per quintal, while the same wheat is being sold at the rate of Rs 3,500 per quintal in the international market. .
