Congress President Kharge visited Ambedkar Memorial, Azad’s tomb; pays tribute to

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday visited the memorial and ‘mazar’ of BR Ambedkar and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and paid tributes to two freedom fighters and former Union ministers.

After visiting Ambedkar’s memorial here, Kharge also posted a quote from the former law minister and chief architect of the Constitution on Twitter- “Bhakti in religion can be the path to liberation of the soul. But in politics, bhakti or hero-worship is a sure path to collapse and eventually dictatorship. ,

Kharge, who took over as Congress President on Wednesday, said in a tweet, “Visited Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial in Delhi today and paid floral tributes to Babasaheb.”

Kharge also visited Azad’s mazar (grave) here and paid floral tributes to India’s first man education Minister.

Before assuming the post of Congress President, Kharge had visited Rajghat on Wednesday and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He also visited the memorials of former Prime Ministers Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri, Indira Gandhi, Rajiv Gandhi and former Deputy Prime Minister Jagjivan Ram and paid tributes to the leaders.

On Wednesday, Kharge took charge as the first non-Gandhi president of the Congress in 24 years, citing Rahul Gandhi’s slogan ‘daro mat’ to energize workers and declaring that the party’s government’s “lies, betrayals” and the system of hatred”.

The 80-year-old Kharge had won the Congress Presidential election by defeating Shashi Tharoor and replaced Sonia Gandhi.
