Congress President’s post: Ashok Gehlot out of the race for Congress President’s post

“Have always been a disciplined soldier CongressRajasthan CM said after meeting Gandhi. He also said that he was sorry and apologized to Sonia Gandhi for the developments in Rajasthan.

Earlier, senior party leader Digvijay Singh had decided to contest, news agencies reported. Digvijay Singh has been involved in planning the Bharat Jodi Yatra, which is being led by Rahul Gandhi.

“Today I have come here to collect my nomination form (for Congress president election) and will file it tomorrow,” news agency Congress leader Digvijay Singh said. ANI has reported.

On Wednesday, Gehlot sought to defuse the political crisis in the state, for which three of his loyalists have been issued show-cause notices by the party’s central leadership and said, “internal politics is on, we will resolve it”.

Gehlot, who emerged as a strong contender for the post of Congress President, reached Delhi on Wednesday. Talking to reporters, Gehlot said that the party works under the Congress President and decisions will be taken in the coming time.

He said that Congress workers are worried about the direction in which the country is going and it is more important to tackle the issue.

Whether it is inflation, unemployment or dictatorial tendency in the country, Rahul Gandhi is worried about it. All of us in Congress are concerned about the direction in which the country is going. It is more important for us to deal with this. Internal politics goes on, we. Will solve it,” he said.

“We work under the Congress President. Decisions will be taken accordingly in the coming time. Media should recognize the issues of the country. Writers, journalists are being called anti-nationals and put in jail. We are concerned about them. And Rahul Gandhi is on the journey for him,” he said.

After reaching Delhi, Gehlot reached Jodhpur House.

The Congress had called a meeting of party legislators in Jaipur as part of the process to choose Gehlot’s successor, but his loyalists held a “parallel meeting”. Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Mallikarjun Kharge, who went to Rajasthan as observers, gave a written report to Sonia Gandhi.

With only one day left to file nominations for Congress President election and no form filled due to Rajasthan crisis, senior party leader Digvijay Singh has apparently decided to contest.

“I had no intention of coming to Delhi, but because of this election, I am coming to Delhi,” Singh said.

The former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh is coming to Delhi on Wednesday night and may file nomination for the post of President on Thursday.

Singh has said that he has not spoken to the members of the Gandhi family but he has decided to contest the election and file his nomination.

Digvijay Singh’s name has made the fight interesting as G23 leader Shashi Tharoor is likely to file his nomination on Friday.

Ashok Gehlot was considered a top contender in the elections, but the crisis in Rajasthan, for which three of his loyalists have been served show cause notices, has created some uncertainty about his candidature.

Gehlot and Tharoor were considered the two prime candidates for the post and Digvijay Singh’s possible candidature has added a new twist to the fight.

Digvijay Singh has been involved in planning the Bharat Jodi Yatra, which is being led by Rahul Gandhi.

The journey that started from Kanyakumari will end in Kashmir and will cover a distance of more than 3,500 km.

Ashok Gehlot has been a target of leaders after the incidents in Jaipur, where a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) was scheduled as part of the process to decide on his successor.

There is suspense over Gehlot’s nomination as several leaders are approaching Sonia Gandhi to reconsider her name.

If Digvijay Singh emerges as a candidate, he will be the X factor in the elections. The nomination process for the election of the next Congress president will continue till September 30 and the election results will be declared on October 19.

Earlier on Wednesday, Congress leader KC Venugopal said there is “no drama” in the state and everything will be clear in a day or two as to who will be the next chief minister.

“There is no drama in Rajasthan. Everything will be clear in a day or two. The media may see it as a drama but at least you are discussing Congress President election. You are talking about any other party in this country. Can’t discuss the Presidential election of the U.S.,” he told ANI.

The Congress leader said that the party is going ahead with the elections in a “democratic manner” for the presidential election.

“Congress is doing it in a very democratic manner, it will easily end in two days,” he said.
