Congress questions Arvind Kejriwal for seeking support against Centre’s ordinance

Congress leader Ajay Maken on Tuesday lashed out at Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and said how can he seek his support against the Centre’s ordinance as his party has supported the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on important issues. Ajay Maken said that Arvind Kejriwal is a person who does not think about the country and talks to Khalistani supporters.

“How are they seeking the support of the Congress? He (Arvind Kejriwal) passed a resolution to withdraw Rajiv Gandhi’s Bharat Ratna with the support of the BJP. He supported the BJP on the issue of Article 370 of Jammu and Kashmir. He supported the BJP during the impeachment of Justice Deepak Mishra. A person who doesn’t think about the country talks to Khalistani supporters…,” the senior Congress leader said.

This comment by Ajay Maken comes a day after several senior leaders Congress Indicated that the party may oppose the Centre’s ordinance on control of bureaucracy in Delhi. The Congress leaders asked the Center to respect the Supreme Court’s decision and place bureaucratic transfer powers in the hands of the elected government.

Congress leader Anand Sharma said on Monday, “Even today we are of the opinion that the Supreme Court’s decision was correct. The constitution bench has given a detailed decision on the Delhi issue and the government should respect it.”

The Chief Minister of Delhi will tour the whole country

Delhi’s chief minister Arvind Kejriwal Said on Tuesday that he would travel across the country for the rights of the people of Delhi and seek support against the central government’s ordinance.

“This fight is not only for the people of Delhi. This fight is a fight to save Indian democracy, a fight to save the constitution given by Babasaheb, and a fight to save the judiciary. This fight is a fight to save the country. I look forward to everyone’s support in this,” Kejriwal tweeted.

central ordinance

On 19 May, the central government through an ordinance notified the National Capital Civil Services Authority and gave it the power to recommend transfer and posting of all officers of the All India Services in Delhi. The authority will include the Chief Secretary and the Principal Home Secretary along with the Chief Minister of Delhi. Decisions will be taken by majority vote and in case of disputes, the decision of the Lieutenant Governor (LG) of Delhi will be final.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleged that the ordinance was in violation of the May 11 order of the Supreme Court which had given the power of transfer to the elected government of Delhi.
