The Congress in Kerala on Saturday suspended rape-accused MLA Eldhos Kunnapilly from the membership of KPCC and DCC for six months.

The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) in a statement said that the explanation given by the MLA was not satisfactory and the party suspended him from the membership of KPCC and District Congress Committee (DCC) for a period of six months.

“The explanation given by him on the allegations was not satisfactory. As a representative of the people, he failed to do due diligence,” the KPCC said.

A woman had recently filed a case of rape and attempt to murder against the Perumbavoor MLA.

Meanwhile, Kunnapalli, who is absconding since a case was registered against him, appeared before the Crime Branch on Saturday under questioning.

Crime Branch sources said that he would be questioned more in the coming days.

The Kerala Police on Friday registered a fresh case against the Congress MLA for allegedly revealing the name of the victim in a rape and attempt to murder case.

Police said the case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by the victim that the Congress MLA defamed her through online channels.
