Congress took out protests from the streets to camp at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi:

Congress has decided to change its protest strategy as Rahul Gandhi will visit Enforcement Directorate offices again tomorrow for questioning. This will be the fourth day that the agency is questioning Mr. Gandhi in an alleged money laundering case involving the National Herald newspaper. His last three interrogation sessions had taken action in the form of street protests by Congress workers and leaders and mass detention by the police.

At the same time the party plans to continue its protest at Jantar Mantar, the designated protest site of the national capital.

Sources said the party has decided that being detained inside police stations is preventing them from effectively registering their protest and taking their case to the public.

The senior tweeted, “Tomorrow lakhs of Congress workers across the country will continue their peaceful protest against youth anti-Agneepath scheme and against Modi government’s vendetta politics targeting their leader Shri Rahul Gandhi, MP. A Congress delegation also attended the evening. Will call on Hon’ble President,” tweeted the senior. Party leader and former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh.

Mr Gandhi was questioned last Wednesday – the third straight day of questioning. He had sought relief after being with his mother and party chief Sonia Gandhi, who has been admitted to the hospital after testing positive for Covid.

The Congress is opposing the BJP-led central government’s “politics of vendetta”. Since Monday, its activists have been detained and senior leaders who insisted on marching with Mr Gandhi to the ED offices have been assaulted and detained.

On Wednesday, top Congress leaders including KC Venugopal, Bhupesh Baghel and Randeep Surjewala alleged that the Delhi Police barged into the party headquarters, from where they detained workers and leaders. The police have denied the allegations.
