Congress will win Goa elections in 2022, Lok Sabha polls in 2024: Chidambaram

Panaji: Congress veteran P Chidambaram on Thursday expressed confidence that his party will win next year’s Goa Assembly elections and the next Lok Sabha elections in 2024. Chidambaram, who is AICC Goa election in-charge, was addressing party workers after the inauguration. State Election Campaign Office in Panaji. Let me tell one thing from history… Whoever wins Goa wins Delhi. In 2007 we won Goa… in 2009 we won Delhi. In 2012, we unfortunately lost Goa, in 2014 we lost Delhi. In 2017, you (referring to party workers) won Goa, but our MLAs lost Goa, he said, referring to the defeat of the Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The former Union Minister said that this time his party is moving ahead with courage and confidence and will win Goa in 2022 and Delhi in 2024.

In the 2017 Goa Legislative Assembly elections, the Congress emerged as the single largest party winning 17 seats in the 40-member House. But, at that time the BJP formed an alliance with some regional organizations and independent MLAs to form the government. The Congress currently has four MLAs in the state.

“History is ours… We are starting with an auspicious day today and our office has been inaugurated by a valued politician and former Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane,” Chidambaram said. Addressing Congress workers, he said that they should remember the “golden years” when Goa grew, developed and flourished in sectors like industry, schools, colleges and roads. “We will bring back that golden era of Goa from 2022. I want you to move forward with courage and confidence,” he told Congress workers.

Chidambaram also said that Goa will not be colonized by “any political party”. He said, “Goa cannot become a political colony of any invader. Goa will be governed by the people of Goa. Goa belongs to Goa, by the people of Goa and for the people of Goa. Goa will be ruled by Goa, they have ruled by any Said without naming the political outfit. Notably, former Goa chief minister Luizinho Faleiro left the Congress last month and joined the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress.Chidambaram said that the Congress has shown its leaders in front of the state. And in the coming days, the party will come up with more young leaders, including women, scheduled tribes, fishermen community and Dalits, to rule Goa, he said.

Chidambaram also said that he would guide party workers on how to convert election offices into “lively election offices”. He said that each Block Committee would have an office and the office of each Block Committee would function as the Block Election Campaign Office. He also said that he had spent a lot of time planning and discussing and now it is time to go to the field and start work. Elections will be held within 100 days from now. I don’t know the date of the election, but I count 100 days from today. He said that we should move forward every day, winning more and more hearts and minds. He said the Congress should garner more votes and send a credible message to the entire Goa and the country that the coastal state would see a Congress government in 2022.
