Congress’s new UP chief lost his bail in last two elections, got only 1% votes in his seat

Brijlal Khabri lost his deposit from Mehroni seat of UP in the last assembly election, he got just 4,344 votes, which was 1.29% of the total votes cast in this seat.

Brijlal Khabri, the new president of Uttar Pradesh Congress, lost his electoral bail in the 2022 and 2017 assembly elections. He was among the 97% of Congress candidates who lost their deposits in the last UP elections.

A candidate loses his deposit if he casts less than 16% of the total votes polled. Khabri, who lost his deposit from Mahroni seat in the last assembly election, got only 4,344 votes, which was 1.29% of the total votes cast in this seat. The Congress lost its bail in 387 of the 399 seats contested by the party in UP. The party’s state chief Ajay Kumar Lalu resigned after a disastrous performance (Lalu lost his seat) and the Congress this week appointed Khabri, who had won in 1999 as a BSP MP, as its new state chief.

Khabri has also worked out as a detailed analysis Election commission India This shows that Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) led by Jayant Choudhary got more votes than Congress in Uttar Pradesh elections. Considering that the RLD contested just 33 seats but secured 26.3 lakh votes, the Congress could garner a total of 21.5 lakh votes even after contesting on 399 seats under the leadership of general secretary in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) lost its deposits in over 71 per cent seats in the UP elections earlier this year. This explains the downfall of both the parties in Uttar Pradesh, where they could win only three seats, while the BJP repeated its government in the state. The BSP could win just one seat, though it got around 1.18 crore votes in the state, and its vote-share fell to a low of 12.88%. It was far behind the BJP, which got around 38 million votes with a vote share of 41.3 per cent. Samajwadi Party (SP) came second with 32 per cent vote share.

The Election Commission’s analysis shows that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lost all the 349 seats it contested in UP.
