Congress contemplation campCongress is organizing a three-day important brainstorming session in Udaipur, Rajasthan on May 13, 14 and 15. The ‘Nav Sankalp Chintan Shivir’ is being organized in the backdrop of a string of electoral defeats and discontent in the party. last several years. The camp will focus on time-bound party restructuring, finding ways to tackle the politics of polarization and being battle-ready for the upcoming electoral challenges. Congress President Sonia Gandhi had announced in March after the results of five assembly elections were announced that the party would soon organize ‘chintan shivirs’. It will begin this afternoon after which more than 400 delegates will discuss topic-specific issues in six groups. There will be 60 to 70 people in each group. There will be no paperwork. These discussions will continue on the first and second day and the findings will be recorded in the form of a declaration, a draft of which will be discussed in the CWC meeting on the third and last day.

  1. Congress’s three-day Chintan Shivir will focus on discussions on ‘communal polarisation’, farmers’ issues and strengthening the party for the upcoming elections.
  2. The leaders will discuss centre-state relations, the situation in the northeastern states and the Jammu and Kashmir issue.
  3. Issues like public sector disinvestment, rising inflation, minority issues and women’s issues will be discussed, while youth will discuss the new education policy and rising unemployment.
  4. The agriculture committee will discuss the issue of legalization of MSP, loan waiver and wheat price.
  5. On behalf of the organization committee, the reforms at the national, state, district and block level will be discussed.
  6. The “one family one ticket” strategy is also on the agenda for discussion.

The Congress’ motive behind this exercise is to deliberate on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The focus of the Chintan Shivir will be on preparation of action plan for the party and steps to be taken to strengthen the organisation.
