Coronavirus Live Updates: India records 33,750 new COVID-19 cases, 22% more than yesterday

India on Monday reported 33,750 new COVID-19 cases, a 22 per cent increase over the previous day, while 123 people died due to the virus in the same period. The number of omicron cases in the country rose to 1,700, with Maharashtra recording the highest number of infections.

The number of active cases in India is 1,45,582.

After a total of 10,846 were cured in the last 24 hours, the total number of cured people rose to 3,42,95,407.

Meanwhile, vaccination was opened to adolescents in the age group of 15 to 18 from Monday amid a surge in COVID cases in several cities. More than 40 lakh adolescents received their first vaccine dose on the first day of the immunization programme, which is being conducted in hospitals and health centers in consultation with schools. People born in 2007 and earlier are eligible for the vaccine.

23 junior doctors of Delhi hospital tested Kovid + Spiral in a week

23 resident doctors of a top Delhi hospital have tested positive for COVID-19 in a span of a week, even as the national capital is grappling with a sharp spike in cases. Medics at Safdarjung Hospital have mild symptoms and have isolated themselves, said a senior doctor on Monday.

“So far no case of Omicron has been reported. He is self-isolating and does not require hospitalization at the moment,” the doctor said.

According to the health bulletin, the city on Monday added 4,099 new COVID-19 cases, taking the positivity rate to 6.46 per cent in the last 24 hours.
