February Covid toll tops 15,000, highest since July, but 42% of earlier deaths
The Covid deaths recorded in February crossed 15,000 on Friday, beating the toll for the whole of January (14,752) to record the highest number of fatalities in seven months since July last year. However, deaths from the first two waves of the pandemic continue to creep into the current record. Just 58% of the deaths in February (8,673) occurred in the recent past. The rest, 6,329, were fatalities from earlier months which were added to the toll during the month. read full story
