Court allows sacked officer Sachin Waje to become government witness

Special CBI Court allowed on Wednesday dismissed police officer Sachin Waje will become an official witness in a corruption case against former Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh.

Special Judge DP Shingde allowed Mr. Vaz’s application to be a witness from an accused, and said, “I have allowed your application, but I have imposed certain conditions. The court asked, “What is the status of the accused in the Enforcement Directorate case? Advocate Raunak Naik, appearing for Mr. Vaze, told the court that he has made an application to become a government witness before the investigating agency in that case as well.”

On March 21, 2021, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh wrote a letter to state Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, alleging that Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Mr Deshmukh had set a target of collecting ₹100 crore from the bar. Had given. and restaurants in the city in a month.

The High Court had on April 5 directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to initiate a preliminary inquiry against Mr. Deshmukh. Subsequently, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) probed money laundering charges against the then Home Minister.

On April 21, an FIR was registered against Mr Deshmukh under sections 120B (criminal conspiracy) and section 7 (public servant taking bribe other than legal remuneration in respect of a government act) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) . Corruption Act (PCA). The NCP leader is currently lodged in Arthur Road Jail.
