Court dismisses bidi tycoon’s plea against life imprisonment in murder case

Kochi:

The Kerala High Court on Friday dismissed an appeal filed by beedi trader Mohd Nisham sentenced to life imprisonment for killing a security guard in a fit of rage by ramming his luxury vehicle in Thrissur district seven years ago. .

A division bench of the High Court comprising Justices K Vinod Chandran and C Jayachandran upheld the trial court’s order awarding life imprisonment to Nisham.

The High Court also dismissed the government’s plea seeking maximum death penalty for Nisham.

In its 2016 order, the trial court in Thrissur had also sentenced Nisham to 24 years in prison and imposed a fine of Rs 80.30 lakh on him.

He is currently serving a prison sentence.

Nisham, who was “drunk”, allegedly attacked Chandrabose (51) in a fit of rage and later rammed his luxury vehicle against him in the early hours of 29 January 2015. He was annoyed by the delay in opening the main. Gate by the guards of ‘Shobha City’, a posh residential complex in Thrissur.

The seriously injured guard, who was undergoing treatment at a hospital with ventilator support, died on 16 February. The matter had sparked widespread protests across the state.
