Covid-19: India records 163 new cases, 9 deaths in a day

India recorded 163 new coronavirus infections, taking the cumulative tally to 4.46 crore (4,46,76,678), according to the Union health minister’s data updated on Friday.

Active cases in the country reduced to 3,380, which is 0.01% of the total infections. A decrease of 22 cases has been registered in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.

As per official data, the national COVID-19 recovery rate has risen to 98.80 per cent.

The death toll stands at 5,30,690 with nine fatalities. Six deaths were tallied in Kerala, two deaths were reported from Maharashtra and one from Delhi in the last 24 hours, updated at 8 am.

The number of people who recovered from the disease increased to 4,41,42,608, while the death rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.

According to the website of the ministry, 220.03 crore doses of Kovid vaccine have been given so far in the country under the nationwide vaccination campaign.

India’s Covid-19 tally crossed 20 lakh on August 7, 2020, 30 lakh on August 23, 40 lakh on September 5 and 50 lakh on September 16. It had crossed 60 lakhs on 28th September, 70 lakhs on 11th October. Crossed 80 lakhs on 29th October, 90 lakhs on 20th November and one crore on 19th December.

The country crossed the critical mark of two crore on May 4 last year and three crore on June 23. It crossed the four crore mark on January 25 this year.
