Covid-19: India reports 44 fresh infections, active cases down at 1475

New Delhi: India recorded 44 fresh coronavirus infections in the last24 hours, pulling down active caseload to 1,475, according to a health ministry update on Monday.

Total reported cases, since the pandemic hit in early 2020, stands at 4.49 crore (4,49,94,325), with death toll at 531,908.

Meanwhile, the number of active cases has declined to 1475 taking the total number of covid cases to over 4.50 crore so far.

Covid cases have declined over the last three months after a surge in infections due to XBB.1.16 Omicron variant.

Health experts have noted a steady fall in hospital admissions due to the declining number of cases. Despite this, elderly individuals and those with comorbid conditions remain at risk. Vulnerable populations have been advised to take their booster shots and continue observing covid-19 protocols. Experts say that the current variants of the coronavirus are likely to be less severe due to widespread hybrid immunity, a result of both vaccination efforts and natural infections.

Around 44,460,942 people have recovered from the infection so far, with 58 recoveries were reported in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate stands at 98.81%.

Around 22,765 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of tests to 92.93 crore.

Under the covid vaccination drive, more than 220.67 crore vaccine doses have been administered to the people across the country so far. In the last 24 hours, around 102 vaccine doses were administered.
