COVID cases in Telangana cross 400 mark after 4 months

Telangana saw another sharp rise in COVID-19 cases, with the daily caseload rising by at least 50%. The number of fresh infections crossed the 400-mark on Tuesday with 403 persons testing positive for coronavirus. The last time this number was violated in the state was on February 19 (401 infections).

While the cases have increased in comparison to the last one week, the number of investigations has remained more or less in the same range. A total of 26,704 tests were conducted on Tuesday.

After a third wave earlier this year, there was a decline in cases by the end of February. The daily caseload remained below 100 till June 6. It crossed 100 again on 7 June and went above 200 on 14 June.

Admission to ICU

After several weeks, from June 18, COVID patients began to be admitted to the ICU and occupied on oxygen beds. The number of patients in the ICU was five, while there were seven oxygen beds and 12 regular beds.

Citing a ‘slight increase’ in cases in the last 15 days, Director of Public Health G. Srinivasa Rao has issued an advisory that includes avoiding unnecessary travel, completing two doses of vaccination and using face masks in public places.

He reiterated that children below the age of 10 years and the elderly above 60 years fall in the vulnerable category, and hence, should be avoided to go out unless absolutely necessary. This is noteworthy as schools have recently reopened.

“Work places are to be provided with soap and hand washing facilities or sanitizers. Adequate physical distance should be maintained among the employees,” he suggested.
