The training session was conducted by Brain Wire, a medical research company based in Kochi.
Police are often the first responders to any emergency that occurs in public places. This sometimes includes medical emergencies, hence the importance of such training programs. In the present circumstances, when someone experiences heart failure or heart attack in public places, it takes at least 10 to 15 minutes for an ambulance along with the emergency medical team to reach the patient. With each passing minute, there is 7 to 10% damage to the brain. Police officers on the road who manage traffic can be a lifesaver in situations like these.
The training was conducted through innovative measures using 3D virtual reality videos. During the session, the police were given training to restart the heart and thus blood circulation. The training session was led by emergency medicine specialist Dr. Mohammad Hanif M.
Brain Wire has shaped the training program with a view to reduce deaths from cardiovascular diseases such as cardiac arrest and heart attack. According to its directors Kiran NM and Raj, the training program is for the public and not just for police officers. Because, more than 60% of cardiac arrests occur in homes and in most of these cases the family members are unaware of the basic first aid measures. The training session was inaugurated by State Police Chief Anil Kant. ADGP (HQ) Manoj Abraham also attended the inauguration.
