A good news is coming for all the foodies from the food delivery service Zomato. Now you can finally order your favorite dishes from across the country at your doorstep. Zomato has expanded its services to bring renowned local food from other cities to your doorstep in its new intercity delivery system called ‘Intercity Legends’. The news was announced by CEO Deepinder Goyal in his blog post, which is a matter of great joy for the food lovers. For now, the service is available for residents of South Delhi and Gurgaon, and other cities will be added to the list soon.
The distribution system will initially cover cities such as Kolkata, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Bangalore, Mathura, Chennai, Agra and Bhubaneswar. Currently, orders can be placed through Zomato’s existing app services only in areas that are located within 7-10 kms radius from its restaurant partners.
To ensure quality and prevent spoilage, foods will be prepared fresh, packaged in reusable and tamper-proof containers, and then transported via air or road. They will reach the customer the next day, but some items may take a little longer than that.
The CEO mentions using state-of-the-art mobile refrigeration technology without freezing the food or adding any kind of preservatives.

Deepinder wrote of the pilot project, “Better food for more people – Our mission statement obliges us to ensure that health and safety are not compromised at any point of time. To ensure that aroma, All dishes have been laboratory tested, keeping the texture and taste of high quality.”
Some users have also pointed out that Zomato’s new project looks like a Shark Tank India Pitch by Swee Desi where the company aims to deliver sweets from local stores to cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Pune and Jaipur. Watch the pitch here.
