Moscow:

Authorities in Moscow-linked Crimea said Thursday that a thermal power plant on the peninsula was targeted by an overnight drone strike, but claimed it was not badly damaged.

“There was a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) attack on the Balaclava thermal power station tonight,” Mikhail Razvozayev, the Russian-installed governor of Sevastopol, said on Telegram. “The transformer is the least damaged. There were no casualties,” he said.

The official added that “there is no threat to the electricity supply” and that “the incident does not affect the power supply of Sevastopol and the peninsula.”

He said the transformer which caught fire during the alleged attack was “under maintenance and not working”.

“Plant workers quickly doused the fire,” he said.

His statement came as Ukraine retaliated in the south.

Moscow’s forces fighting in Ukraine have affected the country’s electricity supply in recent weeks.

Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.
