Cristiano Ronaldo out of Manchester United squad to face Chelsea after Spurs tantrum

Cristiano Ronaldo was dropped from Manchester United’s squad for a clash with Chelsea on Saturday following his anger against Tottenham.

Ronaldo tore down the Old Trafford tunnel with minutes to spare in United’s 2-0 win over Tottenham on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old star reportedly told United manager Erik ten Haag that he does not want to come in as a late substitute.

Ten Haag said after the Tottenham match that he would “deal with the issue” on Thursday.

This was not the first time Ronaldo had shown public dissatisfaction with his role in Ten Haig’s team and United’s manager eventually responded with an axe.

“Cristiano Ronaldo will not be part of the Manchester United squad for this Saturday’s Premier League game against Chelsea. The rest of the team is completely focused on preparing for that fixture,” a joint statement said on Thursday.

It is believed that Ten Haig’s decision to drop Ronaldo is fully supported by the United hierarchy.

United Chiefs are said to be making a decision on Ronaldo’s long-term future following a disciplinary issue. But whether a return path can be worked out for the unhappy Portugal striker, it remains to be seen.

United will have to wait until the transfer window reopens on January 1 before selling Ronaldo.

Frustrated by United’s failure to qualify for the Champions League, Ronaldo has been trying to move away from Old Trafford since the end of last season.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus star had hoped to join a club in the Champions League, but he has barely received offers from Europe’s elite.

Ronaldo missed United’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia for “family reasons”, before making another display of disappointment in a friendly against Rio Vallecano.

Playing under Ten Haig for the first time, Ronaldo was substituted at half-time and responded by leaving Old Trafford before the end of the match.
