CSIR-CECRI and GODI India partner to manufacture lithium-ion cells in Chennai: Details – Times of India

CSIR-CECRI (Central Electrochemical Research Institute) And dock india Taramani has entered into a public-private partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding for operation and maintenance of an advanced lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility in Chennai. This forms India’s first public-private partnership to manufacture advanced lithium-ion cells on a large scale. Dr. Shekhar C Mande, former Secretary DSIR and former Director General, CSIR Inaugurated the new facility in Chennai in the presence of Dr. Kalaiselvi, Director, CECRI.
Dr Shekhar C Mande, Former Secretary DSIR and Former Director General, CSIR said, “CSIR is a wealth of knowledge covering all aspects of science. CSIR is contributing a lot in space, defence, nuclear and other social applications. partnership with God India marks a new chapter in the development of advanced lithium-ion cells with respect to next generation energy storage applications. We have taken a step forward to provide useful contribution for the ultimate benefit of the country under ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.”
Commenting on this partnership, Mahesh DockFounder and CEO, Godi India said, “This partnership marks the beginning of the development of the next generation of cells for mobility, ESS applications and new R&D projects. GODI India will operate and maintain a facility to manufacture advanced lithium-ion cells and meet a variety of applications ranging from e-mobility to large-scale energy storage systems. This partnership demonstrates a testimony to our reliability and technology strength in lithium-ion cell manufacturing.”
“Currently, all lithium-ion cells are being imported mostly from China and South Korea. GODI India is the first Indian company to manufacture Made-in-India and Made-for-India Lithium-Ion cells, certified by BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards), tested by third-party testing agency TUV and Is worthy. With this, GODI India can manufacture and sell cells at par with the standard cells available in the world market,” said Godi.
