CUET ensures that there is no disparity among students: Delhi University VC

In Delhi University, we have multiple courses and lakhs of candidates appear for the exams, and because it was the first time the students faced some issues, said Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh

Common University Entrance Test (CUET) 2023 Few months are away and there is a lot of anxiety among the students regarding the common university admission process. Last year, the CUET admission process was introduced for the first time and created quite a stir. Several glitches and technical issues were pointed out by the students. this time, the Delhi University Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh assured that the process would be more smooth.

Talking about the need for a common entrance exam, the DU VC said, “There is a need to understand the principle behind the whole process. This is to ensure that there is no disparity among students while applying. When the admission process in DU was closed, it was easier for students coming from state courses, which are comparatively easier to score. This created a lot of inequality. This CUET process will ensure that every student gets equal opportunity to get admission in Delhi University.

“One needs to understand that it is a mammoth task. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts CUET, also conducts NEET and JEE, with a maximum of three subjects. In Delhi University, we have many courses and lakhs of candidates are giving the exam, and because it was the first time the students faced some issues. This time we have learned from last year’s experience and we can assure you that the entire process will be student friendly,” Singh told News18.com.

The application process for CUET 2022-23 started on May 19, but the exam dates were not announced then. The deadline for applications was then extended thrice to July 4, July 10 and July 18. NTA several times tried to correct errors in the list of universities or courses, additions as well as withdrawals. On August 8, the NTA notified the dates for the exam to be held over 10 days from September 1 to September 11.

In 2022, about 3.57 lakh candidates were to appear in these examinations. Delhi University VC Yogesh has assured that this time the whole process will start and end on time. “The CUET process will start after the board exam results are out in May and accordingly we are planning to finish the entire process by a month so that there is no delay in the declaration of entrance results and the academic session can begin. On time without any delay. Last year the new academic session started in October itself.

In a message to the students, the Vice-Chancellor of Delhi University said, “There is no need to worry. We will ensure that this time the CUET process is an easy process and student-friendly. It is our appeal to the students that you should read the prospectus of the university properly and submit the application as mentioned in the prospectus.
