CUET may be conducted twice a year from next session: UCG Chairman. details here

new Delhi University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Jagdish Kumar on Tuesday said the National Testing Agency (NTA) may consider conducting the Central University Entrance Test (CUET) twice a year from the next session.

Kumar also informed that the students of the state boards will not face any disadvantage in the undergraduate admission process. The UGC chairman clarified that CUET will neither promote ‘coaching culture’ nor will it make board examinations irrelevant.

The UGC chairman had announced the CUET scores last week and not class 12 marksIt will be mandatory for admission in 45 Central Universities and Central Universities can fix their own minimum eligibility criteria.

Kumar’s statement comes after the implementation of CUET attracted negative comments from academicians and experts, who pointed out that it would only be fair to those students who can get trained for it.

On universities adhering to CUET scores, the UGC chairman said that common test scores will not be limited to admissions in central universities only, as several major private institutions have indicated that they would like to appear in the board to use the Common Entrance Test marks for undergraduate admission.

“To begin with CUET will be conducted once this year but NTA will consider conducting the exam at least twice a year from next session. The entrance test will not be limited to only central universities but will be limited to private universities as well. Many leading private universities have indicated that they want to come on board and admit students through CUET.”

Regarding the type of CUET exam, Jagdish Kumar said, “No coaching will be required for the exam, so there is no question of promoting coaching culture. The exam will be completely based on the class 12 syllabus. Many students are getting worried whether the exam will have questions from class 11 syllabus as well. The answer is not clear”.
