The Odisha CM has no plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah and has not held any meetings with senior opposition leaders.

There was no discussion on the presidential election, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told reporters when he reached Parliament on Tuesday. He said neither the opposition nor the government had approached the Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

BJD MPs welcomed him at the Parliament gate. He has no plans to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi or Home Minister Amit Shah. He has also not scheduled any meeting with senior opposition leaders.

“I am here in Parliament to meet BJD MPs, to implement various programs and welfare schemes of our states,” Patnaik said.

His visit had fueled speculation that he was here to push for the presidential election.

“Nothing has come to light yet, there is still a lot of time for that,” said Mr. Patnaik. Asked whether he wants a unanimous candidate, Mr Patnaik said he has not thought of it yet.

On the question of the possibility of opposition unity once again in 2024, Mr Patnaik chose to remain silent. “We haven’t looked into that yet.”
