CUET-UG 4th Phase: Students claim center is changing at the last minute, demand clarity on re-testing

No clarity on last-minute change of centres, distant centres, and re-examination options – students are worried on the second day of the fourth phase of CUET. The first shift exam is going on on Thursday. The exams at 13 centers were canceled on Wednesday after a technical snag affecting over 8600 candidates.

“My chosen city is mentioned as the exam center city in my information slip. However, when I got the admit card, I found a center which is 150 km away and the entry closes at 8.30 am. I am trying to reach out to NTA but no luck yet,” said Neha Singhal, a CUET aspirant.

Another candidate, Anjali Mishra said, “Till yesterday afternoon, my admit card showed a different center and today it is a different centre. I had no information that my center was changed at the last minute and I have no clue whether I will get the option of re-exam or not.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) had announced on Wednesday that the affected candidates will get a chance to re-appear for the exam on August 25. CUET is the common gateway for undergraduate admission in all central universities. A total of 3.6 lakh candidates are eligible to appear for the fourth phase to be held from August 17 to August 20.

The examination of an additional 11,000 candidates, who were to appear in the fourth phase from August 17-20, has been postponed till August 30 to accommodate the city of their choice for the centre. As per the initial plan, all the phases of CUET-UG were to end on August 20. The National Testing Agency (NTA), which is responsible for conducting the exam, had later announced that all the stages of the exam would end in August. 28.

However, now the schedule has been further postponed and the exam has been divided into six phases. The agency had to cancel the exam at various centers due to the glitches in the second phase of CUET.

UGC chief Jagdish Kumar had said that the exams at various centers were canceled following reports and indications of “sabotage”. The second and third phase exams were also canceled due to rain and landslides at centers in Kerala and Itanagar.
