CUET Updates: Private universities interested in using CUET to admit students

University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman Jagdish Kumar on Tuesday said that students of state boards will not suffer in the undergraduate admission process.

In conversation with news agency PTI, The UGC President also shared the road ahead for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). The UGC chairman said that the National Testing Agency (NTA) will consider conducting CUET twice a year from next year.

He also clarified that CUET will not make board examinations irrelevant and also will not promote coaching culture in the country.

Kumar had announced last week that CUET scores, not Class XII marks, would be mandatory for admission to 45 central universities and central universities may fix their own minimum eligibility criteria. The exam will be completely based on the class 12 syllabus. Many students are getting worried whether the exam will have questions from class 11 syllabus as well. The answer is not clear”.

The Chairman said, “We have written to the Vice Chancellors, Directors, Principals of all State Universities, Private Universities, Universities and Colleges to use CUET scores for admission to UG programs from the academic session 2022-23 in all UGC National Tests. Central University funded by the Agency (NTA) in 13 Indian languages.”

He said that with CUET students need not worry about getting skyrocketing marks in class 12th and do not have to write many exams.

In a letter to state universities, the chairman wrote, “Many state universities, deemed universities, private universities and other higher educational institutions (HEIs) in the country also use 12th board marks or conduct entrance exams for admissions.” UG programs.”
