Customs seizes gold worth Rs 1.38 cr at Chennai airport

Customs was working on specific inputs in respect of 2 passengers.

Chennai:

Gold weighing over three kilograms worth Rs 1.38 crore was seized from the Chennai international airport and two passengers were arrested in this connection, the Customs Department said on Monday.

Acting on specific inputs, department officials intercepted two passengers from Kuala Lumpur and Dubai respectively in the past two days and seized the yellow metal hidden in their inner clothes, a press release said.

The seized gold weighed 3.08 kgs, valued at Rs 1.38 crore and both the passengers hailing from Tamil Nadu were arrested.
