CWG 2022: Neetu Ghanghas wins gold in women’s 48kg boxing

In the women’s 48kg category, an Indian boxer Neetu Ghangas won the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022. He defeated his rival England’s Demi-Jade Rezton by a unanimous 5–0 decision.

This is the first medal for India boxing In this edition of the Commonwealth Games.

Neetu beat her opponent with non-stop punches to win. She was ruthless on Canada’s Priyanka Dhillon in the semi-final as well as she won the RSC (Referee Stop Contest).

She played with an open guard, inviting her opponent to strike using straight jabs and combo punches.

Hailing from Haryana’s Bhiwani district, the 21-year-old is a two-time junior world champion. With this gold, India has earned 41 medals in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Out of 41, 14 are gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze medals. Earlier India’s medal tally had most of the medals from weightlifting, but now wrestling leads with 12 medals.

PV Sindhu India’s star badminton player also reached the finals of badminton women’s singles.
