The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a cyclonic storm which is likely to make landfall in Odisha by Sunday evening. The weather forecasting agency said that a low pressure area developed over South Andaman Sea is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm and reach Andhra Pradesh-Odisha coasts early next week.
The Met Office has also warned of thunderstorm and heavy rain in the districts of Gangetic West Bengal from Tuesday (May 10) to Friday (May 13) next week in view of the possible formation of a cyclonic storm.

IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said the low pressure area is likely to move northwestwards and intensify into a depression over southeast Bay of Bengal and a cyclonic storm over east-central Bay of Bengal.
He said it is likely to hit the coast on May 10.
IMD Director General Mrityunjay Mohapatra said that they have predicted that the wind speed of the cyclonic storm will remain 80-90 kmph in the sea.
Meanwhile, the state has been put on alert. The Department of Energy and Telecom Service Providers have been asked to carry out restoration work immediately if their towers are affected by a possible cyclone.
