Cyclone in Kolkata: Ready for another cyclonic circulation in Kolkata later this week. Kolkata News – Times of India

Kolkata: A day after a cyclonic circulation inundated Kolkata, the Met Office has predicted another that is set to develop later this week. Meteorologists said that the impending weather system may not have the same effect on Kolkata’s weather as Monday’s movement.
Next may form over east-central Bay of Bengal on September 25 and move towards northwest Bay – a trajectory that is likely to see it collide Orissa Coast instead of South Bengal. Even on 26 September, Kolkata can feel the effect.

“It is too early to predict to what extent this will affect the weather in Kolkata. But as per the likely direction, there may not be heavy rains in the city and South Bengal,” said Regional Meteorological Center (RMC) director GK Das.
Light rain fell in Kolkata on Tuesday morning. However, light rain occurred in some areas in the evening.
Meanwhile, the cyclonic circulation which had introduced 142 mm of rain on Monday, becoming the rainiest day of September since September 25, 2007, moved towards West Midnapore as a low pressure area on Tuesday. Even though it was moving westwards towards Jhargram, Purulia and Bankura, but due to low pressure, a lot of moisture was coming from the sea.
“This led to light to moderate rain in Kolkata and adjoining districts in the evening. The western districts received heavy rains and till the time there is no circulation in Jharkhand, it will continue to rain,” Das said.
However, the Meteorological Department has predicted relatively ‘dry weather’ from Wednesday to Friday. “Except for occasional drizzle and light Monsoon rains, Kolkata cannot receive heavy rains. In fact, the temperature may go up a few degrees,” Das said.
