The Dalai Lama on Saturday congratulated Mr. Siddaramaiah on becoming the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the second time.

In a letter sent to Mr. Siddaramaiah, the Tibetan spiritual leader said, “Last April marked the 64th anniversary of our life in exile. At that time to find a suitable place to resettle Tibetans fleeing to India, former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru Had appealed to the Chief Ministers of various states to provide land.” He said the most generous response came from former Karnataka Chief Minister S. Came from Nijalingappa.

“Subsequently, as you know, more than 30,000 Tibetans settled in Karnataka in the 1960s, the largest group of exiled Tibetans. I am grateful to the state of Karnataka and in August 2018, a special gathering was held in Bengaluru to thank attended the ceremony.For their friendship and generous support to the kingdom and its people, the Dalai Lama said.

Mr Siddaramaiah was sworn in as chief minister for a second term, along with state Congress president DK Shivakumar as deputy chief minister, and eight legislators today as ministers, exactly a week after the party’s assembly elections in Karnataka.

The spiritual leader said, “In addition to establishing five residential settlements in Karnataka that allowed Tibetan communities to resettle, I am proud that the state is also where many of our major monastic centers have been re-established.”

The Dalai Lama “expressed gratitude to the people of Karnataka and its government for the warm and friendly support extended to Tibetans during these critical times”.
