Dani Alves confirms Barcelona departure

Barcelona right-back Danny Alves will leave the LaLiga club when his contract expires at the end of this month, a little more than six months after coming out as a free agent to curtail his second stint with the Catalan giants .

The 39-year-old Brazilian won six LaLiga titles and three Champions League titles in his first spell with Barca between 2008-16.

“After more than eight years dedicated to these colors, it’s time to say goodbye,” Alves wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.

“Many more years passed until football and life, who, as always, are so grateful to those who respected him, decided to give me the chance to come back here to say goodbye.”

Alves, who has won more than 100 international caps for Brazil, played 16 games in all competitions last season as Barcelona finished second in LaLiga, 13 points behind champions Real Madrid.

He was brought in by Barca coach Xavi Hernández, his former teammate, to rescue the ninth-placed team in the LaLiga standings.

Alves, who played for Juventus, Paris Saint Germain and So Paulo for the first time since leaving Barcelona, agreed to keep his salary to a minimum, which helped the club avoid breaching financial fair play rules.

“I want to thank all the staff for giving me the opportunity to come back to this club and be able to wear that great shirt again,” Alves said.

“I hope they don’t miss my madness and daily joy. I hope those who survive will change the history of this beautiful club. I want it from the bottom of my heart.”
