A post-poll survey by Lokniti-CSDS found that 44 per cent of those who voted for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh considered the work of the Modi government while casting their votes. Astonishingly, only 2% said they adore the work of the MLA. These findings suggest that a voter is more influenced by the work of a national/regional leader than the work of a legislator. Thus, candidates find it advantageous to jump ship and place their bets on the leaders/parties who are most favored in the election.
