The Nifty 50 index closed 60 points higher at 15,842 while the BSE Sensex closed 180 points higher at 52,973. Bank Nifty index climbed 476 points to touch 33,597 level. Volume on NSE was lowest in almost 3 months. The BSE small-cap and mid-cap indices outperformed major benchmark indices with gains of 1.15 per cent and 1.51 per cent, respectively.
