DCP asks drug addicts to become informers; To share details of smugglers, peddlers

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Administration) Moka Sathi Babu has appealed to drug addicts to give up the drug addiction, share information about traffickers and suppliers with the police, so that this menace can be eradicated.

Speaking at an ‘Anti Drug Drive’ program jointly organized by the Task Force, Special Enforcement Bureau (SEB) and Police in Vijayawada on February 1, the DCP said drugs were ruining many lives and urged the youth to stay away from the evil. Said to

“SEB and police have launched a special drive against drugs. I appeal to the youth and students not to take ganja and inform the traffickers and peddlers to the police,” said Mr. Sathi Babu.

“Apart from patrolling, special teams were conducting raids at black spots where drug addicts were meeting and providing counseling to those addicted to ganja and other drugs,” the DCP said.

“We have identified around 550 ganja addicts, 300 smugglers and suppliers. Besides this, black spots (meeting points of drug addicts) have been identified under each police station limits,” said officials of the task force.

Counseling psychologist Dr. Gare Shankar Rao has asked youths named in drug-related cases to stop taking marijuana and dream of their future.

“Drugs will spoil your health and reduce your life span. Stop taking ganja, focus on building your career and lead a respectable life in the society,” said Dr. Shankar Rao. Another psychologist, Shravani asked the students and youth who participated in the drive to sever ties with bad elements, fulfill the aspirations of parents and be well settled in life.

“Your parents have high hopes from you. Those taking drugs included many students and daily wage laborers who were on the radar of the police. Stop taking drugs and have a new lease of life,” said psychologist Tejovati.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) GV Ramana Murthy explained the consequences, if they were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, and in criminal cases, if they were caught smuggling drugs .

SEB Sub. Superintendent of Police D. Prabhakar, CI K. Sridhar Kumar and Ch. Naga Sridhar and other officers participated in the campaign.
