  • State Congress chief Dotasara said there was resentment among the boy’s family members against the local police and they have been assured that action would be taken against the culprits. A police constable was suspended on Tuesday, he said.
  • Meanwhile, the BJP MLA from Jalore has said that it is suspected that the boy was beaten up by the teacher for being from the Meghwal caste and for touching the water pot. “I have spoken to the villagers and others, and according to them, it is suspected that the incident happened because the boy was Meghwal and had touched the water pot. There is no doubt that the boy was beaten up by the teacher and he died. The accused teacher has been arrested. Inquiries are being made. Whether he was beaten up for being Meghwal and touching the water pot, it will be clear in the investigation. The statement should be made only after the findings,” Garg said in a video statement.
  • Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar also reacted to the incident and said that the caste system is “still our worst enemy”. The Congress leader wrote on Twitter, “100 years ago my father Babu Jagjivan Ram was forbidden to drink water in school from a pitcher made for upper caste Hindus. It was a miracle that his life was saved. Today for this reason a nine year old Dalit boy has been murdered. Even after 75 years of independence, the caste system is our biggest enemy.
