GURUGRAM: Three days after four construction workers died at a housing site in Sector 77, police on Friday morning arrested three people, including the project manager, only to release them on bail hours later. During preliminary investigation, the police found negligence on the part of the three present at the site at the time of the accident and said that adequate safety equipments were not provided to the workers.
The accident happened inside the premises of Emaar Palm Hills – where the 25-storey tower is being built – around 4.30 pm on Tuesday. Four workers standing on a platform to fix a tower crane, slipped and fell to 17 floors, killing them. The fifth laborer narrowly escaped the fall and is fighting for his life in a private hospital.

“Signs were issued to three accused – Viyam, Suresh and Santosh – to join the investigation. We arrested him this morning, recorded his statement and released him on bail Rajendra KumarSHO of Kherki Daula police station. “Preliminary investigation has found the fatal accident to be due to negligence and lack of safety equipment.”
Police said the three others named in the FIR – the security engineer, the site engineer and the contractor – are yet to join the probe. “We have already urged the labor department and DTCP to give their report on the accident,” the SHO said.
Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Nishant Yadav has also constituted a committee to inquire into the lapses in the safety arrangements of workers and negligence caused by the fatal accident.
Meanwhile, TOI has learned that the labor department is trying to complete the paperwork to ensure early payment of compensation to the family members of the deceased.
