Debacle Tune On, SP+ Leaders Next Move. How will Akhilesh keep allies engaged until the musical chairs for 2024 begin?

The Samajwadi Party-led alliance may have increased its tally in the Uttar Pradesh assembly to 125, but post-poll alliances have started cracking. From allegations of ticket selling to sidelines of Dalits and Muslims, voices within the SP alliance are enough to give an idea that ‘all is not well’, even top leaders claim That their alliance will continue in the next election as well.

Akhilesh Yadav seems to have a bigger challenge on his hands before the next election in 2024 – keeping the herd together. The state president of Rashtriya Lok Dal on Saturday accused their leaders Jayant Chaudhary and Akhilesh of behaving like ‘tyrants’. Masood Ahmed resigned, alleging that the SP-RLD alliance sold tickets.

He further said that internal rifts and ‘supremo’ culture among the parties were the main reasons for the alliance not winning. Ahmed accused Akhilesh and Jayant of ignoring issues related to Muslims and Dalits. The allegations came after Jayant Chaudhary made it clear that he would be with the SP and would also contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections with Akhilesh.

Meanwhile, on Friday, there was a rumor that Om Prakash Rajbhar, chief of the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party, a minor ally of the SP, will meet Amit Shah and top BJP leaders in Delhi. However, Rajbhar later rubbished these claims and said that he was firmly in the SP alliance and hoped to contest the next election with the Samajwadi Party.

The SBSP is a former ally of the BJP, while OP Rajbhar was made a minister in Yogi’s cabinet in 2017 after the victory of the saffron brigade. Rajbhar, however, left the BJP alliance in 2019 and later entered into an alliance with Akhilesh Yadav.

Akhilesh’s uncle and Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party Lohia (PSPL) chief Shivpal Yadav blamed the SP’s organizational structure for the recent defeat, creating more trouble for the SP. He said that if the booth committees were formed earlier and tickets were announced on time, the SP would have easily crossed the 300 mark and the BJP would have been reduced to 100 seats.

Since the election results, a kind of silent war has broken out between Swami Prasad Maurya and Mahan Dal chief Keshav Dev Maurya. Swami Prasad Maurya lost the election from Fazil Nagar seat of Kushinagar. The Mahan Dal chief had said that he was defeated by the overconfidence of the coalition leaders. He has said that his cadre was not utilized properly and that he had less number of seats as compared to other alliance partners.
