Debunking common myths about hair care during transitional periods

As we transition from winter to summer, there are a number of misconceptions about the promise of healthy, luscious hair. Suppose you have been told or heard that you should not wash your hair every day as it may lead to hair breakage or that you should oil your hair from time to time to treat dandruff. Let us bust some of these misconceptions.

Myth 1: You shouldn’t wash your hair every day as it can cause breakage.

The truth is that during summers, our hair is often exposed to pollutants, chlorine and the sun. That’s why delicate cleaning is necessary every day. By using sulfate-free shampoos, you can maintain the bounce and shine of your hair without stripping it of its natural oils.

Myth 2: Conditioning hair in summer makes hair oily.

Truth- Hair gets dry and damaged after exposure to various elements like sun and chlorine. Hence, applying a good quality conditioner will reduce dryness and damage. Using deep conditioning masks also contributes to healthy hair. To seal in the moisture, conditioner is always applied to the ends or middle of the hair.

Myth 4: Frequent haircuts encourage the growth of healthier and stronger hair.

Truth: Getting a haircut affects neither the hair root nor the follicle. Frequent haircuts will reduce the number of split ends.

Myth 5: Healthy hair can be achieved with 100 brush strokes a day.

The truth is that frequent, aggressive brushing can weaken and damage hair. Instead, gentle brushing may increase blood flow. Do not brush wet hair as it may cause hair breakage.

Fact: Dandruff is caused by a skin fungus. You cannot get rid of dandruff by applying oil to hair. You can solve your dandruff problem by using a good anti-dandruff shampoo.

Myth 8: Summertime heat styling causes more hair damage.
