Delegation of five TMC MPs met families of Lakhimpur Kheri victims, away from police

Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen, who was part of the delegation, said that it is shameful that in the 75th year of India’s independence, law-abiding MPs and MLAs are shamelessly committing murders and avoiding it.

Ms Sen along with her Rajya Sabha colleagues Abir Ranjan Biswas and Sushmita Dev and Lok Sabha MPs Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar and Protima Mandal spent 14 hours on the road from Delhi to reach Lakhimpur Kheri. At various checkposts where they were stopped, they escaped police scrutiny by becoming tourists. They stayed the night at Lakhimpur Kheri, avoiding detection. They were able to visit the homes of 20-year-old Lovepreet Singh and 60-year-old Nachhatar Singh in the early hours of Tuesday.

“Justice is all that the families are demanding. They can’t shut their mouths with compensation. They want the immediate arrest of Minister of State for Home Ajay Mishra Teni and his son Ashish Mishra, whose guilt in the incident has been proved beyond doubt,” Ms. Sen told Hindu.

When the TMC delegation was leaving Nachhatar Singh’s house, the police found him. Ms Sen said the police misbehaved with her and tried to obstruct her way as she left the village.

He said that it is shameful that the elected representatives of the country have been stopped from visiting parts of Uttar Pradesh without any valid reason.

“BJP MPs and MLAs are getting away with ruthless killings under the Narendra Modi regime. What could be more embarrassing and shocking than this? And we must not forget that this is happening when the country is celebrating the 75th anniversary of independence,” said Ms. Sen.
