Delhi Capitals opened account for the first time in IPL, beat KKR by 4 wickets

For the first time in the 16th edition of Tata IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals won on 20 April. David Warner-led Delhi Capitals defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 4 wickets at their home ground – Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

Rain interrupted play, a game of hide and seek was played, the match started late after several inspections. The toss finally happened at 8:30.

After winning the toss, Delhi Capitals captain David Warner opted to bowl against Kolkata Knight Riders and the match started at 8:30 PM instead of 7:30 PM.

Dominating the powerplay with the bowling attack, Delhi Capitals bowlers took 3 wickets of KKR in 6 overs while controlling the run rate at 6.00.

KKR batsmen, on the other hand, struggled and the team kept losing wickets at short intervals. By the completion of 15 overs, KKR has scored 98 runs losing 8 wickets.

However, in the last over of DC’s Mukesh Kumar, KKR’s power hitter Andre Russell hit a hat-trick of sixes as the team posted 127 runs on the scoreboard. But by the end of 20 overs, KKR lost all their wickets.

Ishant Sharma, Anrich Nortje, Akshar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav took two wickets each for DC, while Mukesh Kumar bagged one wicket.

Chasing 128 in 20 overs, both the DC openers – skipper David Warner – showed once again why he is the captain of the side. He scored 57 runs from 41 balls, yet the team kept losing wickets as in the previous fixture. However, till the end, DC TATA managed to register their first win in IPL 2023.

For KKR, Varun Chakravarthy took two wickets including that of David Warner, while Anukul Roy and skipper Nitish Rana also took two wickets each.

Even after this win, Delhi Capitals are still at the bottom of the IPL points table while KKR are at the 8th position.
