Delhi Capitals partnered with Viacom18 for Indian Premier League

New Delhi: Indian Premier League team Delhi Capitals has announced a digital-first partnership with Reliance Industries-owned Viacom18 Media, the digital rights holder of the league and the global rights holder of the Women’s Premier League (WPL). The team said that the partnership will give its fans access to content from their franchises across the two leading T20 leagues.

The franchise has said that it has 14 million fans on its social media profiles. The association with the broadcaster will take the team closer to its audience across the country through the OTT app, JioCinema.

“We are thrilled to partner with them and reach a wider fan base through their incredible digital footprint. We have built a strong digital presence over the last few years. Our association will take our engagement on digital to a whole new level We are confident that this partnership will provide our fans unprecedented access to the exciting universe of Delhi Capitals through the app,” said Dheeraj Malhotra, CEO, Delhi Capitals.

“The partnership will help enhance our digital proposition and give fans an engaging reason to watch exciting exclusive surround content complementing the live coverage of IPL and WPL matches on the platform. The association will bring fans closer to Delhi Capitals,” said Harsh Srivastava, the broadcaster’s head of sports strategy and partnerships.

Delhi Capitals will begin their Women’s Premier League campaign against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Brabourne Stadium on March 5, while the men’s team will take on Lucknow Super Giants for their first match on April 1.

In early 2023, the broadcaster said it has signed content creators such as cricket experts Suresh Raina, Chris Gayle, Anil Kumble, Robin Uthappa, RP Singh, Parthiv Patel, Pragyan Ojha and Aakash Chopra for the IPL.

Mint reported that last year the media rights auction for IPL was generated 48,390 crore to the BCCI as per its rules, 50% of the revenue, or approximately 24,195 crore, to be shared with the 10 franchises over five years.
